“Hey Girl!” is this month’s challenge theme at I Heart Faces, and I thought I’d have a little fun with my entry. With two daughters, I have taken more than my share of girly images that would fit the theme. While digging through files, this one just popped out at me…how could it not??!! This is my oldest daughter, caught in a bit of a surprise moment while enjoying a warm afternoon on the porch. The pink phone, nail polish, jewelry, and blinged out sunglasses scream all-girl! Her “Mom, I’m on the phone!” expression is just the cherry on top.

Hey Girl, I’ve seen my furture and it’s a little scary. ;)

Two Peas in a Pod.  That’s the best way to describe these three-year old cuties!  They’ve been buddies since they were born, and from what I saw at their party, their families are just as close as they are.  I was so excited to photograph Ms. F and Mr. C’s 3rd birthday party - their moms planned a super fun Vintage Circus theme complete with a clown, face painting, a magic show, and a candy buffet!  (On a personal note, F & C have the same birthdays as my oldest daughter and her best buddy who now lives in MA…this party brought back a lot of good memories of their early years and all those birthday celebrations!)  Enjoy!

Southern Summer Mini Sessions!

Posted on April 15, 2012

Summer is right around the corner…I know – it’s hard to believe!  Like most families, we use our summer break from school to do some traveling, visit family, and have some fun in the sun!  I’ve been blessed with Sweet Pea’s success, and have recieved requests for sessions while visiting some of our favorite places this summer.  So, I’ve put together some mini sessions that are just right for fitting in to our summer travel schedule.  These sessions are perfect for children and families, and will be as laid back as my signature Sweet Pea sessions.  And, remember – ‘mini’ isn’t code for you being rushed through a session!  ;)   We’ll have plenty of time to capture some sweet sumer memories, and escape the heat before too long.  Check out the bottom of this post for details, available dates, and locations.  If you have any questions or would like to book your session, please contact me at jennifer@thesweetpeablog.com or message me via my Facebook page.  Hope to see you this summer!

It’s that time of the month again to share 12 pictures that are a peek into our daily life around these parts.  This month, all the pictures are from the week we spent in FL for spring break.  We spent lots of great time with family, and spent two days down in Orlando at Disney World.  SO. MUCH. FUN!  All of it!

P with her great-grandmother, who is my beautiful grandma.  I was her first grandchild, and P is her first

great-granddaughter.  I’m so thankful they’ve had the chance to get to know each other…my heart pretty much

sings each time I see my girls with my grans.  :)

The girls with my grandfather, who we call Pappy.  We took a walk down to the little lake near

their home.  They were scouting the water for turtles, fish, and ducks.  Takes me right back to

my childhood doing the same thing down there.  :)   This picture is priceless to me.

Meet my dad.  I spent some time photographing him doing what he loves, which is making music.  It was

super cool to connect with him on a whole new level while we both did our thing.

Dad let me get all artsy while shooting!  (On a side note, I literally stopped traffic while taking this image:

I was all curled up weird on the ground to get this angle – if you’ve ever seen me shoot, then you know what I’m

talking about – and a passer-by stopped in the road to check on me because he thought I was hurt!  A minor traffic

jam ensued.)

DISNEY!!  Mom of the Year alert:  the line to see Rapunzel was long, hot, and brutal.  Yours Truly

volunteered to wait in it solo, so the kids could ride things and stay busy.  Thankfully, Gammie (my mom)

switched off with me at one point, and the line moved quicker than we thought.  So worth it in the end!

My girls were IN LOVE with Rapunzel.  (I love how you can tell that T is sucking her thumb in this pic!)

Sometimes it’s just easiest to fall asleep and skip the boring parts like lines and such.

Ok, so ignore all the technical faults in this photo!  Princess Tiana was my favorite of the day!  She said ‘y’all’ about

20 times in five minutes, and sounded EXACTLY like the movie Tiana.  T was asleep through most of it, and Tiana

was worried she’d feel left out of this part, and asked for this picture.  Made me smile!

Sleepy P at the end of our Disney day.  I love how her newest treasures are tucked in bed with her.

Worn out just like Big Sis.  I almost passed these images up because I had already packed up my gear for the night.

So glad I didn’t.

Little bit of Lego time…in the shade!

P’s special birthday gift was getting a princess make-over at The Bibbity Boppity Boutique.  It was just about

the coolest thing I think I have ever seen.  Ever.  She was lucky enough to get the special window seat, and told us

she really felt like a princess that day.  The girls get to bring home their makeup and nailpolish…she’s been

guarding it with her life!

P and her daddy share a birthday, which they celebrated the week before we went on vacation.

Such buddies, these two.  This picture is not posed – they’re just that happy together.  :)

Thanks for stopping by to check out my pictures this month!  Now head over to Bailey Broderick Photography to see her set for April!

12 on 12 in ’12 | March

Posted on March 12, 2012

How in the world is it March of 2012 already??!!  This year is flying by – I feel like I just posted my February 12 on 12 pics.  We’re really wanting Spring to, well, spring into action around our household because we LOVE spending time outside in the fresh air and sunshine.  We’ve really been enjoying some of the warmer, sunny days as of late and you’ll notice qute a few outdoor pictures this month…

We spent a sunny warm-ish afternoon at grandma & grandpa’s recently…no Daytona 500 to watch sent us all outside to enjoy the nice weather!

Around midnight almost seven years ago, I got a huge surprise when this beautiful child came into our lives a solid month early, just so she could share a birthday with her daddy.  Her little lungs weren’t opening that day she was born, and we all had quite a scare waiting for them to fill with the breath of life…yes, I know that sounds dramatic, but it was -still is when I think about it – when my baby girl left my arms after only a few seconds to be rushed to NICU.  But she’s a fighter, full of life, and will be 7 in just two short weeks.  (Headed off to grab a tissue now!)

Fearless.

Possibly the best shadow ever thanks to her hair!

But, the ‘do didn’t last long; never does with Birdie.  In case you’ve always wondered – this is what a Hot Mess looks like.

Total Mommy Goggles on this image!  I was just playing around one day while she was eating an apple, and instantly fell in love with this shot once I looked at it on my computer.  My focus fell on her hands, which wasn’t intentional but a happy mistake…I love how you can see her little toddler chubbiness in her fingers, the dimples on her knuckles and elbow, the fullnes of her cheek all puffed out with apple…  Oh, Birdie, my sweet girl.

Dr. Seuss Mix & Match day at school!  She thought it was super cool that her leggings were really pj pants, and that no one would know she was really wearing pajamas to school.  Little things.

Found this little collection on P’s bed.  When I run out of business cards, it’s safe to say it might not be because I’ve handed them all out.

P never had a ‘lovie’, but T definitely does.  These are her Babies…Pink Baby and Polka Dot Baby.  Not sure how they came to called ‘babies’, but that’s just what they are.  No matter how much I wash them, her little sweet smell is always on them and I kind of love that.

Quiet little moment between the two after a bath last week.

Dressed up in her pretties for breakfast over the weekend!

In honor of the time change, P and I took a few pics outside last night.  This image was taken at 7:10 p.m.  If we lose an hour of sleep, at least we get some gorgeous evening light to make up for it!  Here’s to the golden hours of summer!

I hope you’ve enjoy this month’s set of images.  So excited about next month when I’ll be able to share my favorites from our trip to Disney World!  Now, head on over to Emily Combs Photography to check out her 12 for March!

Hold on to your hats, folks.  This here is just about the cutest little dude I think I have ever seen.  No, really – he is just so darn sweet!  I met Mr. C last year when I took pictures of him when he was 5 weeks old.  I was so excited when his mom recently contacted me about another photo session to mark him turning 6 months old.  He always seems so sweet and smiley in the pictures his mom posts on her Facebook page, and I couldn’t wait to get him in front of my camera…he didn’t disappoint!  He was so good for mom and me during the entire session, and never fussed during the mulitple outfit changes.  (I could have taken pictures of this little guy all day.)  Enjoy the cuteness overload; you’ve been warned.  ;)

This is my first entry into a photo challenge at I Heart Faces…wish me luck! ;) The theme this month is “Beautiful Black & White”. This photo of my oldest daughter building a sandcastle has long been a favorite – the sunflare is gorgeous, and I love the concentration on her face while she’s upside-down hard at work. I originally processed it in color to embrace the warm sunshine, but ended up falling in love with it all over again once I tried out a B&W conversion. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Be sure to check out the other entries this month over at I Heart Faces!

It all starts with some very helpful friends, a little planning with your photographer, two bunches of balloons, and a mysterious trunk…

And what you think is going to be a simple photo session to mark your daughter’s 3rd birthday

Suddenly turns into the moment you’ll find out if your new baby is a boy or a girl when you open the trunk!

It’s a…

Mom and Dad getting their first look at baby boy’s ultrasound pictures (love their expressions!)  Word is, the little dude wasn’t very shy in front of the camera.  ;)

Congratulations to the J family on a healthy baby boy!  He’s sure to be just as adorable as his big sister.  Mrs. J – you are pretty fab at planning things out!  Mr. J – what a good sport for taking the surprise in stride!  In case you’re wondering, my clients’ friends and I were the only ones who knew ahead of time what baby J was.  I had a lot of fun working with my client and her friend to plan this shoot…what a cool thing to be a part of, and it brought back a lot of good memories from finding out what my babies were.  (Although, I have to say – finding out by opening a balloon-filled trunk would have been way more exciting than a simple “it’s a girl” from an ultrasound tech!)

12 on 12 in ’12 | February

Posted on February 12, 2012

Month #2!  It’s hard to believe that February is here already.  Last month I took all 12 pictures on the same day, but this month I decided to take a sampling of my favorites taken over the last couple of weeks.  We’ve had quite the run of sickies in our household, and as such life hasn’t been terribly exciting.  But, I like this little collection of our family life.

Personal photography projects are so much fun to work on because I can take more of a creative license when shooting and editing…heavy emphasis on the editing.  I try to keep my client work very “clean” and classic, with maybe one or two different edits thrown in here and there.  With my personal work, I love to try my hand at various editing techniques:  more dramatic B&W conversions, images with more of a vintage edit, and – my current fave – hazy edits!  I really like the variety in this month’s set.

Thanks for stopping by to check things out…enjoy!

Chillin’ in a daddy-designed tent on a rainy day…nothing better.

Took advantage of a warm winter day to head to the park…waiting for the train ride to start!

Same warm winter day.  Same gorgeous park.  Getting ‘the stare’ from my youngest.

My husband’s trifecta of hot sauce.

Lil’ bit of bathtime fun!

Eyelashes.

I kid you not, I spilled a few drops of coffee last week and one landed in the shape of a heart.

Proof my coffee loves me as much as I love her.  (Trust me, it’s real.  I’m not clever enough to

think of something this creative before the sun comes up.)

Pinterest alert!  We found and made these little Jell-o roll-up thingys last weekend.  Girls thought there were cool,

but I haven’t been asked to make them again.  You can find the recipe on my Pinterest board here.

P recently celebrated the 100th day of school styled in an uber fashionable shirt covered in 100 sparkle pom poms.

What?  Of course I made it!  Don’t worry, my Etsy shop will be opening soon.  I know you’re despearate to order one

of your own.

It’s hard to see, but the candy heart says “smile”.  P said it would make a great picture, so I snapped away.  :)

Make it a double!  My little Birdie decided she wanted part of my lunch the other day.  She has a thing for sitting on the

table when eating.  We have yet to break this habit as it’s kind of quirky and funny…I doubt she’ll still be doing this

when she goes to the Prom so I’m not worried yet.  We dined on a very delicious hashbrown casserole.

Thanks for checking out my 12 on 12 February edition.  Be sure to head over to the next Twelever’s blog to check out what Lindsay at Lindsay Brynn Photography shared this month.  See you in March!

I was so excited when this mom contacted me about photographing her daughter’s 3rd birthday party.  You see, it had a Snow White theme (we’re BIG on princesses in this house), and mom’s hobby is party planning so it was sure to have some super cute details to capture…and it didn’t disappoint!  The Birthday Girl wore the sweetest custom-made dress from Love PaisleyDesigns, mom got into the party spirit by dressing as one of the Seven Dwarfs, The Wicked Queen attended (and was actually very nice!), and Snow White herself made an appearance to read a story and make balloon animals.  The forks were my personal favorite among the party decor, and be sure to check out Spiderman’s face when he sees it after being painted…it rocks!

Happy Birthday, E!
